James Greenhalgh

Qualifications + Background

Since retiring from professional tennis 10 years ago, James has devoted his time and energy to developing New Zealand’s top junior and senior players. He has helped coach many aspiring players to represent NZL at junior and senior Davis Cup and Fed Cup level. His commitment and enthusiasm to the game is infectious.

James has 27 New Zealand National titles, is three-time NZ Residentials Singles Open champion and seven time NZ Residentials Doubles Open champion. He spent nine years as a NZ Davis Cup player with experience competing against Davis Cup teams from Australia, Brazil, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Labanon, Indionesia, China, Taipei, Japan, Korea and China.

James has 1 ATP Tour doubles title— Hong Kong Open, and 2 ATP Challenger doubles titles—Sapot and Warsaw Open. He has 23 ITF Satellite/Futures titles and was Wimbledon and French Open Doubles Junior Champion. Career high doubles ranking #89 and singles #327

Coaching Experience

Currently, James is the Tennis Auckland Regional Performance Manager. In the past, James captained both Tennis NZL’s Junior and Senior Davis Cup Teams. Previously he successfully managed Tennis NZL’s High Performance programmes.

James has developed multiple National title holders and transitioned Junior players to professionals. He holds a Tennis Australia, High Performance Level 3 Coach qualification graduating in 2008 and is a Tennis NZL and Tennis Australia Coaches Association member. James also holds a current St John’s First Aid Level 1 qualification.

Academy Coach

Adam Staub

Qualifications & Background

Adam has played tennis since the age of 6 years old. Throughout his junior years he competed in New Zealand and Australia, then went on to play Club Tennis in Germany for three consecutive seasons where he also played money tournaments and began his coaching career. Adam then went on to play and coach throughout Australia and still has a strong relationship with many of the coaches over there. Currently he coaches full time and plays Carobowl and Chelsea Cup. He looks forward to bringing his skills and knowledge to the High Performance Coaching Group.

Adam is a Tennis Coaches NZ member, an Assistant Junior Coach and is qualified in St John’s First Aid.

Coaching Experience

Adam is a Tennis Auckland performance programme coach. He also has experience coaching Hot Shots and was assistant coach at St Heliers Tennis Club for 4 years.

Additionally, Adam coached in Germany from 2003-08 and throughout northern Australia from 2009-13.

Diana Deyeva

Qualifications + Background

Diana has been playing tennis since she was 5 years old. She started competing in regional and national tournaments at the age of 10, and in her junior years she played in multiple international ITF tournaments throughout New Zealand, Australia and Europe.  She also competes in SCARBRO Caro Bowl. Diana is very passionate about coaching and has had experience coaching in multiple clubs in Auckland.

Diana has completed the Tennis Australia Junior Development Coaching Course and has a First Aid qualification.

Coaching Experience

Diana has wide knowledge and experience in coaching across all ages and abilities. She has worked in multiple clubs in Auckland, primarily WestEnd and Whangaparaoa tennis clubs. She has been the Tennis Auckland Hot Shots programme coach for 2 years.

Tennis Hot Shots Coach

Lucia Young

Qualifications & Background

Lucia has been playing tennis since she was 6 years old. She started competing in regional and national tournaments from the age of 9 and has played multiple international ITF tournaments throughout New Zealand. Lucia has experience playing Division II college tennis in the United States where she attended Bluefield State between 2014-2015. She also competes in SCABRO Caro Bowl and Chelsea Cup. Lucia is currently studying a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy and is in her final year. She is very passionate about working with children and has had experience coaching in multiple clubs in Auckland. She has completed the Tennis New Zealand Assistant Coaching Course and has a First Aid qualification.



Lucia has knowledge and experience in coaching across all ages and abilities. She has worked in multiple clubs in Auckland, primarily Sunnyhills and Royal Oak tennis club. She has been a Tennis Auckland Hot Shots coach for the last year.

Tennis Hot Shots Coach

Chanistha Ampornachariya (CT)

Qualifications & Background

CT began playing tennis at the age of 9 years old where she also started competing in regional and national tournaments. Winning her first national title at the age of 10, CT has 19 New Zealand National titles, including the NZ Junior Masters Singles champion for U12 and U14 as well as individual, teams and school national titles. CT also won the Tennis NZ Top Dog award in 2011 where she won 104 from 114 matches in a one-year period. She has represented New Zealand 4 times, at World Juniors in Malaysia, World Secondary School Championship and the Optus tournaments held in Australia. Her career high ranking was #2 in NZ for her age group and is currently still ranked top 50 in NZ open age bracket. She has also won numerous titles over in Thailand.

Currently CT is a Tennis Auckland Hot Shots coach, she also attends The University of Auckland. She holds a current St John’s First Aid Level 1 qualification.



CT has coaching abilities coming from a competitive tennis background. She has been the Tennis Auckland Hot Shots programme coach for the last year.

Jeremy Brown

Qualifications & Background

Jeremy has a BSc (Sport and Exercise Science) and an MSc (Medical Science) degree. He understands the human body and the nature of movement in sport.  Jeremy is currently completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary School Teaching which compliments his coaching with children.


Jeremy is Tennis Auckland’s strength and conditioning coach. He has worked closely with tennis athletes for close to 20 years now making him one of New Zealand’s most experienced tennis specific trainers.

Bachelor of Science majoring in Sport & Exercise at Massey University

Currently pursuing a Masters in Sport & Exercise on quantifying internal & external training loads in tennis players.

2013 NZ Champs Doubles Runner Up

2015, 2016 Played club tennis in Germany

2017 Represented NZ at the World University Games in Taipei.

Has won Premier Interclub titles in North Harbour (Milford), Wellington (Tawa) and Christchurch (Waimairi).



Matt is currently the National Development Coach for Tennis NZ where one of his roles is running the Tennis Auckland Tour Excel Program.

Since starting at Tennis NZL he has captained the NZ 12/u girls and 13/u boys at the Australian National Teams Events as well as the 14/u boys at the World Junior Teams Event Qualifying in Kuala Lumpur.

Prior to this Matt was the Academy Coach at Tennis Northern for 2 years.

Matthew Monaghan

Qualifications & Background

Matt started playing tennis at age five and his passion for the game itself has since transformed into a love of sharing it with others. Growing up, he trained at Florence Tennis Academy twice a year for six years. As a junior, Matt reached number one in Scotland, Top 20 in the UK, and won the Scottish Junior Grand Prix and British RPT tour finals.  He has played tournaments all over the UK and in France, Italy, Norway, and Germany.

After coaching across three countries and variety of client bases, Matt has come to strongly believe that tennis can serve as a fantastic platform to learn, develop, and reinforce wider life skills such as hard work, resilience, humility, and integrity.


Matt has experienced a variety of coaching styles and philosophies from his coaching in the US, Australia, and his home of Glasgow in Scotland. Matt has coached all ages and abilities, from complete beginners through performance level. His coaching career began at Western Tennis Club in Glasgow, where he spent eight years refining his skills helping players of all ages improve their game.

In America, Matt played college tennis in Minnesota and coached for four years at the renowned Tennis and Life Summer Camp. Most recently, Matt coached Hot Shots, Cardio Tennis, and Performance programs at the Aussie National Tennis Centre in Melbourne during his year living in Australia.
