Tennis at Alert Level 3

  • Post category:News

Dear Tennis Community,

With the recent news that Auckland will be returning to Alert Level 3 today, the team here at Tennis Auckland wanted to provide you all with an update around what this means for tennis.

Please Re-Familiarise Yourself with the Available COVID-19 Information

Tennis Auckland Facilities – Scarbro, Manukau & Nicholson Park

  • Due to the restrictions, Tennis Auckland Tennis Centres will be closed effective immediately
  • At this stage, the Level 3 restrictions are in effect until midnight Friday
  • Therefore, at this stage our tennis centres will also be closed until Saturday 15th August
  • Depending on what happens over the next three days the tennis centres may remain closed beyond this Saturday
  • As during our previous lock-down, we will do our best to keep you up to date with any changes to the operation of the centres and hope to get everyone back playing shortly

Tennis Auckland Programmes & Competitions

  • All programmes and competitions due to take place this week (up to and including Friday 14th August) have been cancelled
  • Given the preparation required, entry process and uncertainties, the Wilson Winter Satellite Series will not take place on Sunday 16th August
  • Tennis Auckland will endeavour to provide an update prior to this weekend regarding when programmes and competitions will be able to restart

Recommendations for Clubs

  • Given the haste that Auckland has moved to Alert Level 3 we recommend that clubs close unless they can meet all the requirements set out here https://sportnz.org.nz/assets/Uploads/Play-Active-Recreation-and-Sport-at-Alert-Levels-4-4.pdf
  • There is no obligation for a club or centre to open if it is not practical to do so
  • Unfortunately coaching is not permitted under Level 3, unless you are coaching someone from within your bubble
  • Tennis NZ have a range of resources available for clubs to use at https://tennis.kiwi/covid-19/. This includes:
    • A contact tracing form
    • A contact tracing poster that can be printed and displayed on your gate/fence/club/noticeboards
    • Community tennis guidelines, including health & safety guidelines from the government made relevant to tennis

Sector Resilience Fund

Please stay safe and look after each other. We wish those officials who are working to trace the cause, the health officials who will test and those who may be ill, all the best in the coming days.
