Funded Tennis Programmes in Schools

Tennis Auckland continues to deliver the national programmes at many schools across the Auckland region.   Multiple programmes are currently being delivered at primary and secondary schools by club coaching teams aligned with Tennis Hot Shots, Cardio Tennis and Tennis Xpress.  There are three models being deployed:

  1. 4 x 30 minute sessions for classes doing Tennis Hot Shots at primary schools. Many of these programmes have been made possible through generous funding received from the Four Winds Foundation.  This type of programme is very prevalent in the South Auckland area and the school children love the opportunity to play tennis.
  2. A taster session for about 200 students at a school followed by a 1 hour x 6 weeks after school programme for 20 students.  In some cases we have been massively oversubscribed due to the popularity of the tasters and at one school there were 63 students who signed up and all got to play.  This model is funded by Kiwisport and Aktive Auckland and it covers schools across the whole of Auckland including the North Shore.
  3. The same fund also pays for the delivery of Cardio Tennis and Tennis Xpress programmes at Secondary Schools and these have been hugely popular.  We have targeted teenage girls for these programmes but some of the secondary schools have added boys to the mix and both genders have loved the new style of tennis activity we’ve given them.  In addition, other programmes courtesy of Kiwisport and Sport Auckland are being enjoyed at schools around Pt Chev and Panmure and for many of the participants it is their very first go at playing tennis.
