COVID-19 : Update from Tennis Auckland

  • Post category:News

Dear Tennis Community,

First and foremost we hope that you are staying safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. As a sport we rely heavily on the goodwill of volunteers and we understand that many of you are juggling the challenges that COVID-19 is having on your family, work and wellbeing.

I want to reassure you all that Tennis Auckland are working hard behind the scenes in preparation for the coming months.

Over the last fortnight Tennis Auckland has been in regular communication with Tennis NZ, Aktive and other sports codes to develop a plan for tennis once New Zealand begins to move down the alert levels. We are close to finalising a series of guidelines and recommendations for clubs and affiliates that provide for the reintroduction of tennis in a consistent and responsible manner across the country. Having been directly involved I believe these guidelines strike the right balance between public health, the opportunities for tennis and the commercial realities being faced by clubs and coaches.

In addition to these guidelines Tennis Auckland is gearing up to hit the ground running once the Government Alert Levels allow for tennis to get underway. Our intention is to return the sport to normality as quickly as possible through competitions, programmes and tournaments, whilst recognising that the environment will be different. This will require Tennis Auckland and our clubs to work together so we can provide an improved, collaborative and cooperative model for tennis. We will also prioritise our club support work and get alongside clubs that need help prior to the 2020/21 season starting. Further details will be released to clubs over the next couple of weeks.

Lastly, Tennis Auckland is still operating during the lockdown which means we are available to answer questions and queries from Clubs throughout this challenging time. Please contact Mark Lewis (Tennis Auckland’s Clubs & Schools Manager) on mark@tennisauckland.co.nz if there is anything that you need.

Be kind, stay connected and stay safe,

Regards
