The Cockle Bay men’s team fired a warning shot across the bows of all teams in the Scarbro Caro Bowl competition by convincingly beating defending champion Parnell by 5 matches to 1 last Friday night.  Cameron Norrie was dominant in his win over former New Zealand number one Mark Nielsen and was backed up by his team mates James Meredith and junior player Jack Hopkins.  As expected  the Remuera 1 team easily beat the young Remuera 2 side by the same score and sits alongside Cockle Bay at the top of the points table after three rounds of play.  Blockhouse Bay are in third place after a hard fought 4-2 win over Pompallier.  Royal Oak beat Kohimarama on a sets count back when matches were evenly split at three wins each.

Sacha Jones made her second straight appearance for Sunnyhills and although she and her partner survived a scare in the doubles she convincingly won her singles match against Sade Atkinson from the Kohimarama club.  Sunnyhills won the contest 5-1 and at this stage look like they may have a chance to go all the way to the title this year.  Defending champs Royal Oak easily beat the young Remuera side without the loss of a match. Royal Oak leads on points after three rounds but have played one more contest than Sunnyhills who had a bye in the opening round.  Parnell is likely to take the lead once last Friday’s result against Glendowie is added to the points table.

The fourth round of Scarbro Caro Bowl play is scheduled for Friday November 1st .
