2025 Caro Bowl Week 1 Review

Caro Bowl Season Serves Up a Strong Start

The 2025 Caro Bowl season got underway in perfect weather conditions last Friday night and Sunday afternoon, providing an ideal backdrop for two rounds of top-class tennis across Auckland.

In the Men’s competition, Pakuranga, Parnell, and defending champions Next Gen all made perfect starts, winning both of their opening ties. Davis Cup player Ajeet Rai made his first appearance for Next Gen on Sunday against Remuera and, after a doubles hiccup, bounced back strongly to claim his singles match. Next Gen again look the team to beat after convincing wins over Remuera and Blockhouse Bay.

Parnell also opened impressively, recording two solid victories, including a comfortable win over a depleted Karaka side. It was a tough start for Karaka, who suffered two losses over the opening weekend.

In the Women’s Caro Bowl, Next Gen and Parnell quickly set the pace, each taking big competition points from the first two rounds and reaffirming their status as this year’s front-runners. Newcomers Papatoetoe made a positive impression, putting up spirited performances against Bucklands Beach and Blockhouse Bay, showing they belong at this level.

The competition continues this Friday and Sunday, with the Friday night clash between last year’s men’s finalists, Next Gen and Pakuranga, shaping as the early-season highlight — and potentially a preview of the 2025 final.
